We want you to know that while our Inn is “fancy” we want guests to get down to feeling comfortable real quick for a memorable adult getaway. We mean it when we say “Make yourselves at home!” We’ll modify every one of our special packages to make it just what you want and offer it as a gift certificate for you to give someone else as well. We enjoy cooking, so don’t worry about special diets. We gladly provide vegan, vegetarian and other special breakfasts if you let us know in advance but we cannot accommodate “paleo” or Atkins diets and we are not Kosher.

The first owners planned and gathered things to share with their guests for 20 years before they opened South Court Inn. They wanted a place that would be so beautiful folks couldn’t resist it, but they also wanted them to fall in love with it because they felt so much at home. Guests told them they had succeeded.  So, we now invite you to join us!

Mike and Adelheid are the second owners of the South Court Inn and will work on imprinting the Inn with their own collectibles from around the world, as we have and still travel extensively.

Relax anywhere in the house or garden with a book from the 2nd floor reading nook or the many book shelves in the living room. Rock on the porch or lounge in the sun room. Play horseshoes, bocce or croquet…or do nothing at all. Try the “Whiskey Wine Loop” that includes prime Virginia wineries and the Copper Fox distillery. Antique shops along the way are also highlighted. Delightful dining can be your goal as well as finding that piece of art that you did not even know you needed. It’s too much for a day so stay two or three and enjoy it all in leisure. Come prepared to relax and plan on having a good time while you are here.

All four of our rooms and cottage have king or queen sized beds, private baths and fireplaces, but each draws guests with different expectations. Three rooms and the cottage have whirlpool tubs.  We steer newlyweds and anniversary couples toward the Turquoise and Ruby rooms or cottage because both feature 2-person whirlpool tubs. Newlyweds seem to like the opulence of the Turquoise room.

Turquoise is our largest room and offers a 35-inch flat screen TV with a DVD player as well. Newly painted on the way to a name and style change along the lines of world travel it is now a soft tan color with pen and ink drawings of Adelheid’s home town, Lingen, Germany. A recliner, easy chair and the magnificent king-sized bed with elaborate canopy, makes this is a room to celebrate marriage — yesterday or 25 years ago.

Ruby, on the other hand, is a snuggling room — warm cranberry and gold, fireplace, crystal chandelier, Turkish carpet and an 1820 mahogany canopy queen size bed with full drapery and a feather mattress over a soft foam one. Lie down and you sink into yesterday! Change to appropriate dress and make the 6-foot whirlpool tub for 2!

Upstairs across from each other in the front of the house facing East to the Blue Ridge Mountain are the Gold and Sapphire rooms. The Gold room was the first to be renovated to the new motif, world travel and reflects a taste of Africa.  It has many authentic items from Ghana, Tanzania and South Africa as well as a Queen bed (with mosquito netting!), flat screen TV, DVD, jetted tub and shower.

The Sapphire room celebrates turn-of-the-century America. The white wicker and the blue and white toile decor reflect gay turn of the century times and colors. It has the best view of the Skyline Drive and Blue ridge Mountain as well as the opportunity for a spectacular sunrise. The electric “fireplace” and private shower make this a favorite choice for the “practical” guest who wants a shower, a king mattress, and lots of sunshine…as well as a private retreat.

The cottage is a stand alone building next to the main house featuring two floors and possible accommodation of 4 people in 3 beds. Downstairs features a King size bed, flat screen TV and DVD player, large whirlpool tub and kitchenette with microwave. Upstairs you will find two Single beds, flat screen TV and DVD.

We try to make breakfast as memorable as the decor and furnishing here at the Inn. We use a variety of china throughout the year and possibly through your stay for that extra touch to let you feel special.

We serve a multi-course breakfast with the menu changing daily, including our own breads, jams, jellies and fruit butters. We combine fine and traditional foods and serve them with elegance in a great dining room. And, whether for breakfast or an afternoon break, select from more than 20 teas and coffee when you’re looking for a hot drink. A nice selection of Keurig coffee and teas is available 24/7 in the sunroom.

We hope you’ll like the idea and experience and we look forward to welcoming you! Come visit, arrive as a guest and leave as a friend!
