Originally opened in 1909, the theater has seen an on-going transformation over the last 100 years. The original 1930 tapestries are still intact. Replica lanterns cast a golden glow throughout the theater, and the lobby and auditorium have been restored. You'll see live performances like these, as well as first run and classic movies. Whether it's the dead of winter or the heat of summer, the Lyric offers a getaway that stays with you long after the performance is over. Rising Silo Brewery. Southwest Virginia's only farm brewery. A small Virginia craft brewery, it's also the place to pick up fresh vegetables, dairy and local meat. You can fill your growler or enjoy a pint on draft. Just be sure to walk around the farm and enjoy the beauty of New River Valley! Alexander Black House & Cultural Center. Billed as "Blacksburg's Living Room, the Blacksburg Museum & Cultural Foundation was created to aid in the restoration of the Alexander Black House. Work is on-going on the house but this small museum is well worth the time to visit. The Smithfield Plantation. Home of the Revolutionary War patriot, Colonel William Preston. You can tour this Tidewater-style plantation as costumed interpreters share what life was like for Preston, his wife, and 12 children, as well as the culture of the day. Preston's descendants included four Virginia governors, four senators, legislators, educators who founded VMI and Virginia Tech, and military leaders for both the War of 1812 and the Civil War. Restaurants! No day is complete without a great meal! Luckily, Blacksburg has its fair share of stellar restaurants to delight your palate. From the Black Hen Restaurant with contemporary American cuisine, Cabo Fish Taco, or any number of other dining delights, finish your day satisfied and happy. But start your day with one of these fine Blacksburg b & b's. The Beliveau Estate is both a bed and breakfast and a winery. Or, the Mountain Rose Inn. Both serve excellent breakfasts to start your day. And their hospitality and graciousness is second to none!
