America got its start in Jamestown, so why not start there? At the Jamestown Settlement, you can trace the settlement's beginnings from England, see gallery exhibits and films about the cultures of Powhatan Indians, Africans, and Europeans of the 17th century. You can also climb aboard the re-creations of the ships that brought the colonists to America. You can also see a re-created fort. Costumed historical interpreters will demonstrate as well as describe the daily life of 17th century settlers.  

Head to Yorktown for More Virginia History

Virginia history at YorktownAt the American Revolution Museum in Yorktown, hear the story of the men and women who helped to found our nation. From the colonial period to the writing of the Constitution and more, you'll see period artifacts, interactive exhibits, as well as films that offer 180-degree surround sound screen and special effects. You can also watch artillery demonstrations, drill with wooden muskets and explore farm life of the 18th century. Visitors can also see the life of Revolutionary War soldiers in a re-created Continental Army camp. Historical interpreters both describe and depict life for Revolutionary War soldiers. You're encouraged to explore the tents of soldiers, and even try on a military coat!  During the Spring to Fall seasons, visitors may be recruited to join the artillery crew to learn the military steps to preparing a battalion gun. Or for preparing mortar for firing. There's plenty to do and see!
