People often ask us, "How did The Black Horse Inn get its name?" Here's the answer.
In 1858, a group of Warrenton lawyers, under the direction of Governor Henry Wise, created the Black Horse Cavalry. It led a successful charge against Union forces at the first battle of Manassas, winning considerable praise from Confederate President Jefferson Davis.
Today, the grounds of The Black Horse Inn have quite a different look, feel, and mission. They are a hunt-country estate in the heart of Virginia's finest horse country!
With ample porches, beautifully landscaped grounds and boxwood gardens, you'll love the spectacular views. Expect to see all sorts of wildlife, including white-tailed deer and red foxes.
The Grounds of The Black Horse Inn
The pre-Civil War mansion has ample space and comfortable rooms, public and private. Do take a stroll of the grounds. You won't be disappointed.
On the other hand, if you decide you want afternoon tea or a pre-dinner cocktail, we recommend imbibing in the boxwood garden. You'll love the white gazebo. Or, just choose to sit on one of our comfortable porches. If the weather is disagreeable, our library certainly isn't!
Stocked with an eclectic assortment of reading material and many classic films, you're sure to find a relaxing way to pass the afternoon. Again, ask us for afternoon tea or sherry.
As for breakfast, we serve our tempting dishes in the main dining room or on our sunny dining porch. Our menus go beyond a gourmet breakfast. We offer formal dinners as well as country buffets. Or, you can reserve the dining room for a small dinner party or corporate retreats.
Not just for couples, The Black Horse Inn can accommodate almost any need you have. From weddings, executive business meetings, family reunions, church gatherings, and more, we're here for all of life's special occasions!
