It’s no doubt that the Fourth of July is a favorite holiday among Americans, not only because it celebrates our rich history and our independence as a nation, but also because it always includes a number of festive activities—cookouts, barbecues, parades, and of course, fireworks.
  1. Blacksburg, VA: Wave your flags at a downtown Blacksburg parade from 2:00pm – 3:00pm. Then don’t miss a FREE movie (“The Lorax”) at The Lyric Theatre. The evening will provide live music and then culminating is a fantastic fireworks display, which starts at 9:30. InnVirginia Lodging: The Oaks Victorian Inn, Beliveau Estate, Clay Corner Inn.
  2. Virginia Beach: With a name like “Stars & Stripes Explosion,” you know that this festival will be bringing the patriotism! This celebration includes tribute bands, Broadway showtunes, folk music and more, all climaxing with oceanfront fireworks.   3. Charlottesville: Not only does Monticello’s Fourth of July celebration take place at the home of Thomas Jefferson, it also includes an annual Naturalization Ceremony to welcome new US citizens from around the world.   4. Lexington: Have you ever celebrated Independence Day with a balloon rally? Well, now’s your chance! Held on the grounds of the Virginia Military Institute, you can enjoy everything from piloted or tethered balloon rides, food vendors, an antique car show, and live music.
