Father’s Day with InnVirginia

We recently highlighted a few of our B&Bs run by mother/daughter duos, and now it’s time to give some credit due to our innkeeping patriarchs just in time for Father’s Day! Between taking reservations, providing B&B maintenance, helping the kids with homework and attending baseball games and dance recitals, our innkeeping dads stay more than busy. We’d like to recognize two of these InnVirginia dads as well as all of you fathers and father-figures out there who just might need a break from reality. If that’s the case, then treat him to a stay at one of our member inns, or promise him a future vacation with an InnVirginia gift card. Buckhorn Inn: Garlan Yoder, innkeeper at the Buckhorn Inn in Church, VA says, “Finding a balance is not what we do well at all, period. What has become easier over the past 8 years since we have been Innkeepers is learning that it’s okay to tell and show the guest that our children come first. And we have gotten great compliments from the guest for that. I believe if you are a parent, being a parent always should come first.” When asked about the most rewarding part of being a father and an innkeeper is, Garlan said, “For me it is seeing my children’s world continue to grow as they meet more new Guest from all over the world. For example: last night we had guest from Germany here. The Children got to see on the world map where Germany is and then get to hear firsthand the different language as well as learn of their culture. The experiences the children get here at the Inn we could not possibly give to them in any other way.” Fig Street Inn: According Greg Kohler, innkeeper at Fig Street Inn in Cape Charles, VA, “Becoming an Innkeeper was a choice I made with my wife so we could raise our children together. We thought we would become innkeepers ‘later in life,’ but the opportunity presented itself, and now I get to be home every day with our children. I've been there for the milestone moments and watched them grow, and I couldn't have done that if I was working an office job.” Happy Father’s Day from InnVirginia!
