Now that Labor Day Weekend has come and gone, we’re on a countdown to the first day of fall. Here in Virginia, autumn is breathtaking. The dark green of summer gradually fades and then bursts into shades of red, orange, and yellow, and the best way to view these seasonal hues is on a hike: B&B at Llewellyn Lodge, Lexington- This B&B is near a number of fantastic hikes. Muster up the strength to enjoy the challenging 5.6 miles of Jump Mountain Trail. Brushy Hills Hike offers a more moderate trail through former logging roads. For an easy but just-as-beautiful stroll, enjoy the Buena Vista River Walk, or the Chessie Nature Trail. Click here for a list of trails near Lexington. Maysville Manor, Buckingham- Maysville Manor is close to a gorgeous portion of Virginia known as Appomattox-Buckingham State Forest. There are numerous trials that wind themselves through this state forest, along with opportunities to hunt, fish, geocache, and bike. Beaver Glen Bed & Breakfast, Meadows of Dan- Beaver Glen is close to a short, half-mile loop hike called the Round Meadow Trail. This is perfect for those who want to venture outdoors to see the autumn scenery, but don’t want to commit to a long day-hike. Another Meadows of Dan hike is the Mountain Industry Trail. This trail is also an easy half-mile hike, unique in its passage through old farm buildings, a whisky still, mountain crafts, and other relics of rural life in the early 1900s. Cross House Garden Inn, Weyers Cave- Cross House Garden Inn is only a short drive away from some gorgeous hikes. If you like waterfalls, then hike the 3.2 miles of Doyles River, or make a day of it and trek across the 9.8-mile loop of the Riprap Trail in Crozet. Doctor’s Inn, Galax- Galax, Virginia offers the New River Trail, part of New River Trail State Park, for your autumn adventure. The entire trail is 52-miles long and runs along an abandoned railroad line. With the gentle hiking trails comes the New River, gift shops, horseback riding, biking, and canoeing. Explore as much as you like, then return to the Doctor’s Inn to refresh after your excursion. For a full list of our B&Bs near hiking trails, click here. Happy Hiking!
