Bud’s Inn at the Chester Plantation, Disputanta, VA, is the newest B&B to be inspected and approved for The Bed and Breakfast Association of Virginia (BBAV) membership. Purchased in 2007 by the now innkeepers, John and Brenda Gilliam, the Greek revival home and accompanying acreage has a history dating back to 1845. The Chester Plantation passed from Colonel Williamson Simmons, the original owner, to his family until Remmie Arnold, owner of the Arnold Pen Factory in Historic Petersburg, purchased it in the late 1940s. After that, in 1963, the land was purchased by B.B. Baugus and turned into the Prince George Country Club Estates.
John and Brenda Gilliam add to the long history of the Chester Plantation by turning the home into a bed and breakfast while maintaining aspects of the property’s past – such as referencing the Chester Plantation in the name and keeping the original door on the home. Bud’s Inn at the Chester Plantation maintains this historical charm with its winding staircase and old-fashioned décor as well as the fact that guests have the opportunity to partake in the Prince George Golf Course, legacy of B.B. Baugus, and of their deck which overlooks a pond.
The Bud’s Inn Innkeepers sought a BBAV membership because “the inspection goes beyond what the local health department requires and is a higher standard to ensure that our customers are receiving the very best quality in health and safety standards that we can provide.” Not only does BBAV membership help enhance Innkeepers education and information, but it helps guide Innkeepers to provide the best service possible for guests.
John and Brenda Gilliam started their B&B so they could do something fun together while “meeting people and making them feel welcome and “at home” while being away from their homes”. Now, with the inspection and approval of BBAV, these Innkeepers can further establish themselves as a high-quality B&B.
