Vintage Route 1 Tour and Downtown Community Day

U.S. Route 1 in Virginia dates all the way back to 1918, and in an effort to commemorate this piece of history, downtown Fredericksburg provides a Community Day that overflows with celebratory activities—tours, displays, exhibits, vintage cars, and more. “Historical images, text, newspapers and in-depth research will show you a side of Fredericksburg that you may have not known was there” (Vintage Route 1). Tours of the route take attendees down places such as Lafayette Boulevard, Princess Anne Street, and Riverfront Park, while exhibits will educate viewers about the Civil Rights Movement in Fredericksburg, the nearby tourist homes and drugstores, eating establishments, and, of course, Classic Cars. The tours are not the only part of Community Day, however. There are a number of other activities for both children and adults alike. Stop by Virginia Partners Bank for free coffee and donuts, or try a Root Beer Float Special at Fizzlebottom Café. Made in Virginia will be offering free food and wine tasting, and Jabberwocky will provide fun and fascinating archaeology activities for kids. And what celebration would be complete without live entertainment? Enjoy Willie Nelson Favorites by Lou Rosgen, music and hula hoop demonstrations at Populuxe, a vintage fashion show, and live radio broadcasts.
