Being a pet is hard work—tail wagging, sitting on command, fetching, and perpetually maintaining a professional level of cuteness. With all of these exhausting efforts, sometimes pets need a getaway just as their humans do. Luckily for your furry friends, InnVirginia has a number of pet friendly options to accommodate both you and your animal companion. The Hummingbird Inn in Goshen, VA offers a pet-friendly room with a private door that leads to a porch and a side yard, an ideal setup for a getaway with your canine companion. Innkeeper Patty Harrison says, “We provide a pet basket (includes bowls, towel, blanket, bags, even books for the pets)…We have an acre of land for the dogs to run around in plus a creek out back for them to swim in… it’s a perfect arrangement!” Mary Ann Kuhn, owner of Middleton Inn in Washington, VA, also welcomes pets and their humans in her cottage and cabin: "When the pet arrives inside the accommodation awaiting the pet are not only home-made dog biscuits and top-grade holistic treats, but also a wrapped gift bag of three or four toys with which to play….We offer pet sitting services so that our guests' dogs don't feel any stress about being in a new place.” If you and your pet will be traveling around the New Church area, consider lodging at the Garden and Sea Inn, which not only welcomes pets, but is also located near two pet-friendly beaches. On the inn website, owners Thomas and Dorothee Renn state, “There are many peaceful areas where you can sit and read or just enjoy the gardens with your best friend. We also have a walking path at the rear of the property, which is fairly rustic, but mowed. And we even offer a large kennel for guest use.” A final suggestion for a fur-friendly getaway is The Richard Johnston Inn in Fredericksburg. Manager Bonnie DeLelys says, “Many snowbirds travel with their pets and we have returned guests every fall and spring who stay with us because we do accommodate pets and offer them homemade dog biscuits. The pets name is on file along with the guests and we always ask how Fido is.” For a full list of InnVirginia’s pet-friendly members, click here.
