Independence Day in the United States in less than a week away, and you’re probably already starting to make plans for family barbecues, grilling outdoors with friends, and bringing out the red, white, and blue décor. One favorite Fourth of July activity is, of course, the enjoyment of fireworks, a grand reflection of our anthem’s “rockets’ red glare.” With so many displays of fireworks, it may be difficult to choose which ones to attend, so we’ve compiled a couple of our innkeepers’ favorite places to watch Fourth of July fireworks:
Cynthia Bruce, innkeeper at High Meadows Vineyard Inn, recommends Scottsville for a “small town old-fashioned parade and HUGE fireworks show over the James River.” Scottsville’s Independence Day parade begins at 9 a.m. with other festivities such as vendors, bounce houses, and live music occurring throughout the day. The fireworks are lit at dusk, and the celebration goes out with a literal bang.
Carol Baker, innkeeper at Huffman House at Creekside Farm suggests Blacksburg, VA as a great venue for watching fireworks. Fourth of July festivities in Blacksburg begin with a downtown parade at 2 p.m. Enjoy live music at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., and then finally, a fantastic demonstration of fireworks at 9:30.
Ann and Mark Hempen, innkeepers at Manassas Junction B&B praise their hometown for its Fourth of July fireworks: “Manassas has some of the most impressive fireworks displays in the state!” After a day of carnival rides, an apple pie baking contest, and face painting, Manassas festivities end with fireworks at 9:15.
